First a little explanation about the correct name of AOPA. Officially, the

name IAOPA, where the I stands for International. The full acronym IAOPA

sounds in full “The International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations” (IAOPA).

IAOPA ( https://iaopa.aopa.org ) has represented the GA for over 50 years. The head office

is located in Maryland, USA. 'IAOPA Europe' ( https://www.iaopa.eu ) is the European branch of IAOPA.

The total membership of IAOPA today exceeds 400,000 worldwide.

Finding the first direct contacts with AOPA, more specifically with AOPA Netherlands

place at the beginning of 2016 in Antwerp with VVMV. Since Flanders is still not a country,

these contacts were continued by the Belgian federation FBA-BFL.  

In 2020, FBA-BFL will pay AOPA Belgium membership to IAOPA in the USA for the first time  †

membership to IAOPA Europe. From then on, FBA-BFL is the official representative of

IAOPA in Belgium and bears the name 'AOPA Belgium' in accordance with all other countries.

It is the first time that a Belgian association pays membership fees to IAOPA. 

Covid sprinkled a bit of turmoil in 2020 in the FBA-BFL's plan to get off to a quick start. Happy

the facebook page (private) – AOPA Belgium did and does very well with more than 750 members.

From 2022, AOPA Belgium will offer AOPA membership with the accompanying AOPA CREWCARD.
